Renovating? Here is your task list of things to get done
Breaking down the home renovation task list: If you are ready for a home renovation, one of the most important things is to be prepared and organized and stay in front of the builder‘s questions and needs. Why?
- You want to keep them engaged and moving forward. If there is a pause, they will likely leave and move on to another job site. They will come back, but who knows when.
- You want to have time to think thoroughly about your interior design material and finish selections and order them. However, delays in decision-making and product receipt can also result in delays and a lack of commitment to the project.
Here is the task list of things to get done before you begin your renovation project.
- Home Plan – Make sure your architectural home plan is clear and understood by your builder by reviewing it, so everyone is on the same page.
- Exteriors – All exterior materials must be selected from the roof to the foundation. They will need all these decisions to give you an accurate price.
- Rough-in Selections – Contractors will need these as soon as the framing construction is completed, including all plumbing and electrical decisions. This will also help with establishing your budget.
- Flooring and Tile – Everything must be ordered on time, and confirm that you like your selections.
- Cabinetry, Countertops, and Hardware – You will enjoy the beauty of these pieces much more if they are entirely planned before installation to work seamlessly with all the other room finishes.
- Paint – This is usually a tall order and needs to be clarified. It’s always best to make wallpaper and paint selections early on to make it clear the needs of the subcontractor. Note: Remember to specify the finish that you want.
- Landscaping – While this might feel far down the road, it’s important to consider landscaping at the beginning of the project. Securing a landscaper can be challenging, and your yard will be a mess during and after construction, so best to come up with an end-game plan.
