How Much Does it Cost to Build a Home?

ByElle Murphy March 8, 2023August 16, 2023

One of the biggest questions is, “How much does it cost to build a home?” Setting expectations right before settling into a project and getting in over your head.

Getting in over your head looks like this:

You’ve poured the foundation, started the framing, purchased the plumbing fixtures and appliances, and all your dreams come true, but when the numbers are much higher than expected, the stress sets in.

Focus on these two items to avoid that kind of stress:

  1. Square footage price
  2. Material Selections + Finishes

SQUARE FOOTAGE:

The square feet x cost to build = a rough estimate. We typically use $350/sf. Suppose you are looking at a 2400 sf house x $350 = $840,000… adding square footage impacts your bottom line number.

MATERIAL SELCTIONS + FINISHES:

Our material + finish collections are the essential part of the pricing. We can’t control the cost of lumber, but we can maintain the price of tile, cabinetry, etc. This is one of the advantages of using Abrigo Home. Your builder can price the finishes before the project begins.

The region also determines the pricing. Certain areas have less expensive labor and materials, not to mention the price of land. The square footage price that I am providing is for the New England Seacoast Region. The best way to determine your regional square footage price is to inquire with your builders.

Remember, you are in charge of being fiscally responsible when making decisions (there are so many to make), and Abrigo Home is here to try to get your costs of building a home under control.
